Refuge Planting Workshop

Saturday, October 24 10am-1pm

This workshop will include information about native trees of Michigan, a planting demonstration, and hands-on planting of 30 trees on newly constructed portions of the Refuge Gateway, part of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge.

Please plan on arriving to the site by 10am. We will provide most of the materials, but please consider bringing a water bottle and work gloves, and wear clothes that can get dirty! Refreshments will be provided at the end of the session. There will also be an opportunity to walk the trails and visit the environmental education shelter and observation deck on the Humbug Marsh Unit, immediately adjacent to the Refuge Gateway.

Directions to the Refuge Gateway:

5437 West Jefferson Avenue Trenton, Michigan

General directions to the Refuge Gateway are below:

The Refuge Gateway is located on the east side of West Jefferson Avenue, between the intersections with Van Horn and Vreeland, in Trenton, Michigan.

The property is enclosed by a chain link fence and is directly south of a Solutia plant. There is a large Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge Gateway sign attached to the fence. We will have a kiosk sign in front of the gate as well. Cars may park inside the property - simply turn in the gate and follow the gravel road to a grass parking area.

Volunteers will be stationed at the front gate and in the parking area to help guide you.

Thanks a lot! Look forward to seeing you on Saturday!
